Like most artists I started young, drawing and taking photographs. At 14 I started taking courses in photography adding to what I had learnt from my father. My artistic leanings led me to study Theatre Production concentrating on scenic painting at Grant MacEwan College (1984-86) in Edmonton and then an internship in Scenic Art at The Banff Centre (1987). I worked over 15 years in the field, with my last position as the Assistant Head Scenic Artist at The National Ballet of Canada in Toronto. I then went on to work at the alternative high school system east of Ottawa, instructing students in art, math and science. I re-immersed myself in art taking course for over two and half years, mostly at the Ottawa School of Art. Now I make art in my studio and at the Ottawa–Gatineau Printmakers Connective Studio. I work in different mediums, photography, painting and printmaking, with a little drawing on the side. I am interested in the mechanisms of perception. It influences my work, either thematical or in the way approach something seemingly straightforward as a landscape. It is central to my process as an artist.
I believe strongly in arts and culture in the community, volunteering as Vice President of the CAPRAC board (Conseil des arts Prescott-Russell Arts Council) and as a member of the Arts, Culture and Heritage committee for the Alfred-Plantagenet Township.
J’étais jeune quand j’ai commencé, comme plusieurs artistes, en dessin et photographie. À 14 ans, j’ai commencé à suivre des cours de photographie en plus de ce que j’avais appris de mon père. Mon penchant me porte à d’étudier la production du théâtre au Collège Grant MacEwan (Edmonton 1984-86) avec une concentration en peinture, suivit d’un stage du Scénographe au Centre de Banff (1987). J’ai travaillé dans la matière pour plus de 15 ans avec mon dernier poste en tant que chef adjoint scénographiste au Ballet National du Canada. J’ai ensuite travaillé dans le domaine de l’éducation alternatif ou j’ai instruit des étudiants en arts, mathématiques et sciences. Pour deux et plus années j’ai pris des cours, pour la plupart à l’EAO. Maintenant je travaille dans mon studio et le studio du Collectif d’artistes gravure d’Ottawa-Gatineau. Je travaille dans de nombreux medias: la photographie, la peinture et les estampes; avec un peu de dessin mêlé à tout ça. Je m’intéresse aux mécanismes de la perception. Elle influence mon travail, que ce soit sur le plan thématique ou dans la manière d’aborder quelque chose d’apparemment simple comme un paysage. C’est un élément central de mon processus en tant qu’artiste.
Je croit fermement aux arts et à la culture dans la communauté, je suis bénévole en tant que vice-présidente de l’exécutif de CAPRAC (Conseil des arts Prescott-Russell Arts Council) et membre du comité des Arts, culture et patrimonie du Canton d’Alfred-Plantagenet
I have exhibited in group and solo art shows that were juried and non-juried from 2012 to present in Ontario and Quebec. My art is in private collections in Ontario, Quebec, Saskatchewan and BC. / J’ai exposé dans des expositions solos et en groupe –juré et non de 2012 jusqu’au présent en Ontario et Québec. Mes œuvres sont dans des collections privés en Ontario, au Québec, en Saskatchewan et en Colombie Britannique.
