There are many types of prints: monotypes, monoprints, intaglio, collagraph, woodblock, Linocut, lithography and screen printing. Many artists have made prints, Peter Doig, David Milne, Marc Chagall and Picasso to mention just a few. I will condense what I know in the next couple of blogs. Keep in mind this a discipline that takes years to master all of the possible techniques. And because of print makings complexities most artist printmakers will focus on only a few types. These blogs are intended to add meaning to some of the terminology. If you are interested in learning more, I recommend this book – “The Complete Printmaker”, or better yet take course or workshop. If you live near or in Ottawa, the Ottawa School of Art has many amazingly talented teachers who teach printmaking.
